Ad Creative is a term used to describe the various elements that designers bring together to create an advertisement capable of capturing the attention of potential customers and persuading them to click on the ad. Ad creative typically contains any or all of the following components: images, text, audio and video. Keys to creating compelling ad creative include understanding your target audience, using high-quality images, audio and video, creating a clear and prominent CTA, and utilizing A/B or multivariate testing to confirm ad creative effectiveness.

Facebook says, “Creative fatigue occurs when an audience has seen the same ad creative too many times.” As a result, an advertiser’s target audience may be less likely to engage with the ad, which can lead to a higher cost per result. Meta provides guidance in Meta Ads Manager before and after the campaign is active to help avoid or resolve creative fatigue.

Before a campaign is active, if Meta predicts creative fatigue may occur in the first 7 days of the campaign, Meta warns agencies/advertisers before they publish the ad. After a campaign is active, if Meta believes your audience has seen the same ad too many times, an advertiser will see a “Creative Limited” or “Creative Fatigue” warning in the Delivery column status for the ad set or ad.

Meta considers all recent exposures of the ad’s image or video, including those from other campaigns. When Meta determines that the cost per result is more than ads the advertiser ran in the past but less than twice as much, advertisers will see a Creative Limited status. Advertisers will see a Creative Fatigue status when the cost per result is more than or equal to twice as much as ads run in the past.

  • Create another ad: Create a new ad with a new image or video materially different from the original creative.
  • Expand your audience: Increase your audience size and reach new people who have not seen your ad as much.
  • Try Meta Advantage+ creative: Advantage+ creative automatically creates variations of your ad using a single image or video and shows a personalized ad to each person based on what it appears they are most likely to respond to.
