1. To encourage visitors to your WordPress website or blog embed Follow Me code embed a html code into your widget.
How to:
- Sign into Pinterest
- Look for the About tab (next to your profile name)
- Look for the "Pin It" in the drop down menu
- Scroll down for the "Follow Button" code
- Select the look you like, copy the html code and paste it into a text widget on your sidebar.
2. Add Pin It icons to the photos on your WordPress blog posts or website pages.How to:
- Sign into Pinterest
- Look for the About tab (next to your profile name)
- Look for the "Pin It" in the drop down menu
- Scroll down to the "Pin It Button" section
- Add the URL of the page the pin is on
- URL of the image to be pinned
- Description of what is getting pinned. (For a bonus backlink remember to use a link to your website in the description).
- Copy the html code and paste it next to the image you wish to be "pinned".
Note: you need to be in html mode, so be sure to toggle from Visual Editor to HTML before you paste AND SAVE in HTML mode.
3. Use a plugin to display recent Pins to your WordPress sidebar widget.
How to:
- Use the Pinterest Pinboard Widget Plugin
- Activate the Plugin and go to the Widgets section of your dashboard
- Drag the Pinterest Pinboard Widget from the Available Widgets (left side of the screen) into the Sidebar of your choice
- You will need to enter your username
or Use the Pinterest Badge plugin.
- this plugin allows you to enter the width of your widget and customize the background color and boarder color.
4. Download interesting Pin icons to showcase your blogs personality.
5. Check the social sharing plugins you already have installed. Hot new favorite, Digg Digg, will allow you to simply check the option of adding Pinterest to your sharing options.

Maybe its just me (maybe I’m getting too old) but Pinterest just seems too complicated, dull and uninteresting. I know I’ve said this a thousand times but I don’t understand how it is generating so much referral traffic. Must be something that I’ve probably missed. Nonetheless, kudos for a useful post! Should help in adding Pinterest on my WP blogs.
Old, you, NEVER!!! I actually am really enjoying Pinterest. I used it a few times this weekend to search for recipes for a dinner party. I found ideas that never would have come to the top of Google (I mean really, would you want to compete with the Food Network?) I like the track-able social plugin with the 12 most popular site bookmarks including Pintrest. I have noticed more guest posters including pictures so they can then be shared.
I wasn’t aware of the track-able social plugin, thank you for sharing! It is always a good idea to add great photos to your blog posts and pages, I think you grab a lot of readers attention quickly. You can embed images from Pinterst on your posts as well, credit is given to the photo author, which is very important.

Hi Eileen, thanks for your post. Is it me, or has Pinterest changed its format since you posted this? I am unable to find the “About” section on my home page on Pinterest. Instead, there are just three possibilities on the upper right corner of my page – the plus sign (adding things), my name (which takes me to my boards and so forth) and a notifications button. Is this different for me because I should have a business version of Pinterest versus a personal one?
