Over the next month, I will be working on making some major changes to SEO Scoop. I have decided to change from the ColdFusion blog script I have been using, to a more standard one - WordPress to be exact. This will be a somewhat major undertaking. Importing the old posts into the new system will be a little tricky, but even more tricky will be 301 redirecting all the old urls over to the new ones.
It will be interesting to see the effects on the SERPs that this change will bring. SEO Scoop currently has good rankings for a lot of terms. I imagine many of those rankings will be disrupted, either temporarily or permanently. I am not really concerned about it, because a lot of my traffic comes from other places, and is not real dependent upon the search engines. Nevertheless, it will be fun to track the effects over time.
So, why am I making such a big change? Well, there are a few reasons. One, I want to have some of the extra features that I currently don't have, such as comments and trackbacks. Two, I want to make use of the nice se friendly urls that WordPress offers. And finally, I just want to become less dependent upon ColdFusion, and make use of more standard scripts.
The changes will also mean a whole new look for SEO Scoop. Hopefully, you won't hate it, but even if you do, oh well... 🙂 So, don't be surprised if one day you come to the site and see a complete makeover. I anticipate very little downtime, but you never know with these kinds of things. In any case, this won't be happening for a few weeks most likely, so nothing major should take place just yet.
