I am just "this close" to being completely fed up with Google. The latest is yet another round of changes to their Adsense program (read more from Jensense). Oh sure, it's their company to do with as they please, and we choose to either abide or not, blah blah blah. That aside, I'm getting really tired of making changes to websites because the rules change once again.
As you may have noticed, I've already taken Adsense off of SEO Scoop. I did that before these new rules came into place, because it was just silly to waste the space for such low return, but now I'm really glad I did. I think, one by one, I'm going to do the same with all my other sites. Some will be replaced by YPN, others by direct sales, or some other form of advertising.
Google won't miss me. I'm just a tiny fish in a galaxy-sized ocean. But at the same time, I don't think I'll miss them either. It was a great ride, and I'm glad Google started the whole thing, but it's time to move on now. I want more control, not less. And as each day goes by, I feel like I'm giving more and more of my control to Google. Yes sir, no sir, whatever you say, sir. Ah, who knows, maybe I'm just getting old and cranky.
It will take a while to convert everything to something new, but little by little, I plan to change everything over. What about you?
- Do you still think Google is the greatest thing since sliced bread?
- Maybe you never thought so?
- How do you feel about Google, circa 2007?
When I have a free 25 minutes I’m going to write my ‘open letter’ to the Google AdSense team. The theme? An increasing lack of trust. Pages that I know for a fact cost advertisers dollars per click are only generating pennies per click for me. Revenue per click goes up when I pull ads off of portions of sites (there will be a crack dealer analogy here), and revenues always start high on the first few days of targeted ads on a new site, then drop (another crack dealer analogy here). There is not another business arrangement on the planet where a veil of secrecy this thick would be tolerated.
I’m very tired about all this Google dominating situation. I want to see new players in the search market that can be competitive and not just a second division player.
I always thought that when there is a monopoly in a sirten market, that market gets slowly worst.
I’m nott happy with Google anymore and I’m a Yahoo! supporter. We neeed fresh stuff.
Well you folks can bitch and moan all you like Adsense still pays my mortgage and both car payments every month and as far as I can see its still Free Money???. As course if its too much effort just go over to the other sources, eh?
And who can forget these other great quotes:
“Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.” -Whitegyr
“I know that when I put this raw hamburger in my mouth, the Google is telling my brain that it is juicy and delicious…Ignorance is bliss.” -Whitegyr
From an advertisers perspective, Yahoo has rolled out some very impressive changes to their targeted ad program. I have just finished reviewing the kit Yahoo! sent me and I must say I feel as though their new pay-per-click engine is innovative and makes a great deal of sense.
For the near future I am going to migrate clients that are bidding on Ad Sense terms into the new Yahoo! program and give it a test drive. It looks like they’ve done a great job overhauling a program that was troublesome at times.
Anyone else think Yahoo! is heading in the right direction with this?
