With all the Google engineers focusing on new Google products (as well as their new homes and cars), the management must have pulled someone from a temp agency to handle the regular search product. Last night, someone hit the GO BACK IN TIME button and reversed the backlink update to pre-update numbers. So what do we call this? An UN-UPDATE?
It has been generally agreed upon that using the link: command is virtually a worthless endeavor now, but a reversal of an update is still aggravating. Notice how we are all heading over to Yahoo! and the beta MSN search to find more accurate backlink reporting now? Google needs to be very careful. Every time we go to one of these non-Google search engines to perform a backlink check, we also get reminded that there are other search engines out there. Who knows? We might just slip in a keyword phrase search now and then and forget to search Google instead.
Watch your back Google. You are on the road to losing your most avid and vocal users. And many of those users are bloggers. Google, you have noticed the new power that bloggers have in influencing the general public - haven't you?
